Is Gatka a sport in Pakistan?
Punjab government has now officially recognised Gatka as a sport in its policy, and the players enjoy the 3% quota during admissions, as do the players of other sports. This art form has graduated from bare-hand combat to using swords, kirpans, lathis, axes, wooden sticks, and more.
Is Gatka a physical or spiritual exercise?
It is considered to be a spiritual as well as a physical exercise. Both these aspects of the person are developed to a high level during the learning phase in this ancient art. Although it uses the sword as its primary weapon, many other weapons are available to the Gatka master.
What are the Shastra used in gatka?
Ranjit Nagara (the drum of victory) and reciting Gurbani are used to raise the spirits of the Sikhs and help them fight valiantly. Even these both are considered a Shastra used in Gatka. During the learning, it is not just the fighting aspect that is taught.
