Harvey Phillip Spector, who was born Harvey Philip Spector on December 26, 1939, was an American record producer and songwriter. He is best known for his avant-garde recording techniques and for his entrepreneurial spirit in the 1960s.

Decades later, in the 2000s, he was found guilty of murder after two trials.

His parents were Russian-Jewish immigrants from the Bronx, New York City, Benjamin and Bertha Spector. While Benjamin was born as Baruch (later changed to Benjamin) in the Russian Empire to George and Bessie Spektus or Specters and moved to America by his parents in 1913 at the age of 10, Bertha was born in France to Russian immigrants George and Clara Spektor.

On their naturalization documents, both families anglicized their last names to “Spector,” and Isidore Spector attested to both of them. Spector assumed his parents were first cousins because of the grandfathers’ same names and histories.
