John Wayne Gacy was one of the most prolific and terrifying serial killers in American history.

He was known as the “Killer Clown” because he often dressed up as a clown for charity events and children’s parties.

Between 1972 and 1978, he raped, tortured, and murdered 33 young men and boys, most of whom he buried in the crawlspace of his suburban home in Chicago.

He was arrested in 1978 and executed by lethal injection in 1994.

But what about his family?

How did they cope with the shocking revelation of his crimes and the media frenzy that followed?

And what happened to his only son, Michael Gacy?

He is one of the most elusive figures in the saga of John Wayne Gacy.

This article will explore his story and how he survived being the son of a serial killer.

What happened to Michael and Christine Gacy?

After their parents divorced in 1968, Michael and Christine never saw their father again and were raised by their mother.

Michael and Christine took active steps to hide from the public and maintained a low profile, and no clear information is available about them publicly.

It is likely that they changed their identities to sever any connection with him, and rumor has it that both children — now in their 50s — live normal lives with careers and families of their own.

Michael Gacy’s early life and relationship with John Wayne Gacy

Michael Gacy was born in 1966 in Waterloo, Iowa, to Marlynn Myers and John Wayne Gacy, who was already beginning to delve into some macabre activities.

John Wayne Gacy managed three Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants owned by his father-in-law with great success, but he had a dark side as well.

He was secretly gay and had a history of sexual abuse and violence.

In 1968, he was arrested for sexually assaulting a teenage boy and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

He only served 18 months, but by then his wife and children had left him.

Michael Gacy was only two years old when his father went to jail, and he never saw him again.

Learning about his father’s crimes and coping with the aftermath

Until 1978, Michael Gacy knew little about his father, John Wayne Gacy, who was arrested again for killing 33 young men and boys between 1972 and 1978.

He lured his victims to his house, where he raped, tortured, and strangled them.

He buried most of them in the crawlspace under his house, earning him the nickname “the Killer Clown”.

The news shocked the nation and the world, and Michael Gacy was one of the most affected by it.

He was 12 years old when he learned that his father was a serial killer.

He reportedly suffered from nightmares, anxiety, and depression.

Not only that, but he also faced bullying and harassment from his peers and the media.

Michael Gacy today

Michael Gacy has remained tight-lipped about his relationship with his father.

He has opted for a private and low-key life, deliberately shunning the limelight and scrutiny.

Rumors suggest that he changed his name to Michael Myers, adopting his mother’s maiden name to distance himself further from his father’s legacy.

In addition, he has maintained a steadfast stance of no contact with his father or any relatives associated with him.

Michael did not attend his father’s trial or execution in 1994, nor did he seek to claim any inheritance or possessions.

He has declined requests to participate in documentaries or interviews about his father and has instead focused on moving on and finding closure from the traumatic experience of being the son of a serial killer.

Conclusion

Michael Gacy’s story sheds light on the complex and often devastating effects of having a family member who commits heinous crimes.

His decision to live a private life is understandable, and we can only imagine the pain and trauma he has endured.
