Ray Charles Robinson Sr. was born in the US on September 23, 1930. He was a pianist, vocalist, and songwriter. Albany, Georgia is where Ray Charles Robinson was born. Bailey Robinson, a laborer, and Aretha Robinson, a laundress, welcomed him into the world in Greenville, Florida.

Ray Charles was one of the most well-known vocalists in history, and his contemporaries frequently referred to him as “The Genius.” When chatting with friends and other musicians, he frequently went by the name “Brother Ray.” Charles may have had glaucoma when he lost his vision as a toddler.

After receiving his college degree, Charles moved to Jacksonville to live with Charles Wayne Powell, a close friend of his late mother. In 1947, Charles moved to Tampa and began working there in two different jobs, one of which was playing the piano for Charles Brantley’s Honey Dippers.

Early in his career, Charles looked up to Nat King Cole as an inspiration. Despite the fact that some discographies claim he recorded his first four songs—”Wondering and Wondering,” “Walking and Talking,” “Why Did You Go?” and “I Found My Baby There”—in Tampa, others claim he actually did so in Miami or Los Angeles in 1951 or 1952.
