Psy Net Worth

Psy, the South Korean rapper, boasts a substantial net worth of $60 million.

His meteoric rise to global prominence was driven by the infectious appeal of his hit track, “Gangnam Style,” and the viral sensation of its music video on YouTube.

For those beyond South Korea’s borders, Park Jae-Sang, or Psy, seemed to emerge from obscurity.

His chart-topping single, “Gangnam Style,” stormed the world, solidifying its position as one of the most-watched videos in YouTube history.

Prior to achieving international acclaim, Psy was a controversial figure in the Korean music scene.

Unlike the typical K-Pop stars characterized by youth, flawless looks, and rigorous training in music, dance, and acting, Psy stood out.

While he garnered numerous music awards, he faced relentless scrutiny from various Korean civil groups.

Despite being labeled a one-hit wonder by many K-pop enthusiasts, PSY has maintained his success.

Since 2001, he has released eight studio albums, one live album, 25 music videos, and 23 singles

Collaborations with notable artists like Snoop Dogg, Will.i.am, BIGBANG members, and more contribute to his achievements.

PSY doesn’t solely rely on music sales; his official YouTube channel generates millions.

He’s also the face of major brands like Samsung and Wonderful Pistachios.

Although less in the spotlight, PSY remains active in music, global concert tours, and South Korean television and film.

Born into an affluent family, his “Gangnam Style” success boosted his dad’s company’s stock.

Psy Early Life

Psy, whose real name is Park Jae-Sang, was born on December 31, 1977, into a well-off family in Seoul’s Gangnam District, South Korea.

His father, Park Won-Ho, chairs DI Corporation, while his mother, Kim Young-Hee, runs a restaurant.

Psy’s school days at Sehwa High were marked by his role as the class clown, infusing a lively spirit into his classes.

His passion for music, especially Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody,” kindled his love for the art.

Originally set to study business administration at Boston University, Psy redirected his tuition money towards musical instruments.

He eventually left BU and entered Berklee College of Music but later abandoned his studies to return to South Korea and chase his music dreams.

Psy Career

In January 2001, Psy made his debut in the music industry with his first album, “PSY… From the Psycho World.”

The South Korean government fined him for including inappropriate content on the album, and his second album in 2002 also stirred controversy due to explicit content.

However, in 2003, he achieved a breakthrough in his career with the release of his third album.

Following this success, Psy entered mandatory military service for South Korean men aged 18-35 in 2003 but was excused in 2005 due to his work at a software development company.

He returned to the music scene in 2006 with his fourth album, which received honors at the 2006 SBS Music Awards.

During this time, state prosecutors accused him of neglecting his work for his music career, leading to his redrafting, and he was not released from military duties until July 2009.

Facing financial difficulties, Psy joined YG Entertainment in 2010 and released his fifth album.

However, its lead single, “Right Now,” faced age restrictions.

Despite his domestic success, Psy had not yet gained international recognition at this point.

Psy continued to build his career, releasing two tongue-in-cheek style videos titled “Daddy” and “Napal Baji” from his seventh studio album, “PSY seventh album,” in December 2015.

This album featured guest appearances by popular American musicians, including the Black Eyed Peas and Will.i.am.

Moreover, Psy is credited as the first Korean pop singer to achieve massive success in the West and the first solo Korean music artist to receive the YouTube Silver Button for surpassing 10 million subscribers on his YouTube channel.

As of September 2023, his net worth stands at $60 million.
