Francis has 393 receptions for 5,262 yards and 40 touchdowns towards the end of his NFL career. In 1993, he was admitted into the Oregon Sports Hall of Fame. Russ Francis was inducted into the PFRA Hall of Very Good Class of 2021 by the Professional Football Researchers Association in 2021.

Russ Francis’s wife, Judy, and many others who loved him so much did not hear good news on October 1, 2023, when the former professional NFL player was reported dead.

Russ Francis Death

October 1, 2023, was when Russ Francis’ death was reported. He died in Lake Placid, New York. He was 70 years old at the time of his death. The New England Patriots, the NFL team he played for between 1975 and 1980, released a statement on social media, saying: “We are deeply saddened by the sudden and tragic loss of former New England Patriots tight end Russ Francis. Our condolences are extended to Francis’ family and friends.”

Francis pursued his love of aviation after leaving the football field and most recently acquired Lake Placid Airways. According to the Boston Globe, he had a license to operate single- and multiengine aircraft as well as helicopters, according to FAA data.

When Francis and Richard McSpadden were taking off in a Cessna 177 from Lake Placid Airport, the plane “experienced an emergency after takeoff.” The plane made an attempt to land back at the airport but failed and crashed into a ravine close by. Francis and McSpadden died simultaneously.

“My older brother Russ Francis was just killed in an airplane crash in Lake Placid, New York,” Francis’ brother Ed Francis wrote on Facebook on Sunday. “Flying was my brother’s lifelong passion and perhaps a fitting way for him to go. God speed to you, my big brother!!”

Russ Francis’ football career has seen him play for the likes of the New England Patriots (1975–1980), and San Francisco 49ers (1982–1987), and the New England Patriots again (1987–1989).

In his career, he has achieved a lot, including Super Bowl champion (XIX), 2× Second-team All-Pro (1976, 1978), 3× Pro Bowl (1977–1979), PFWA All-Rookie Team (1975), New England Patriots All-1970s Team, and New England Patriots 35th Anniversary Team. All these achievements made Russ Francis’ wife and the whole family very proud, but they have lost him now.

Russ Francis Wife, Judy; Who Is She?

Russ Francis’ wife is known only as Judy, and unlike the former NFL star, there is not much information about her online. She certainly wanted a calm life and was able to stay off the headlines, even though her husband was a very popular person.

Online reports say they had two children, a son named Grant and a daughter named Annabel. Russ Francis placed second in the 1980 final and fourth in the 1981 final to earn a spot in both the Superstars final and the World Superstars. In 1981, he won the preliminary football match and set a record in the 50-yard (46 m) swimming event with a time of 23.91 seconds. The record held until Greg Louganis shattered it in 1986.

At WrestleMania 2, Francis participated in a 20-man fight royal with other NFL stars. He temporarily competed full-time in the American Wrestling Association after quitting football. He is the son of wrestling promoter Ed Francis.
