The news of a student identified as Mathieu Magloire allegedly orchestrating a mob attack against the Jewish Cooper Union has gone viral.

Jewish students at Cooper Union College in New York City allegedly hammered on the doors and windows of the school’s library, where Jewish pupils were besieged for an extended period of time.

Following duelling rallies and demonstrations in the region, the event occurred amid tensions on campus between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel groups.

Who is Mathieu Magloire?

Mathieu Magloire appears to be a student involved in the purported mob attack on Jewish students at Cooper Union College. AntiSemitism, a Twitter account, made the claim.

Following opposing demonstrations between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israel factions, the conflict erupted, coinciding with tensions at neighbouring New York University and Columbia University. External film showed the besieged Jewish students inside the library while activists outside screamed pro-Palestine and anti-Israeli slogans.

The incident has been widely condemned by Jewish leaders, city authorities, and organisations such as the Anti-Defamation League and the American Jewish Committee. Concerns were expressed about the safety of Jewish students on campus, prompting authorities to call for greater protection.

According to the New York Jewish Week, the NYPD assured that no property damage, criminal reports, or injuries happened during the incident. Jewish students, on the other hand, reported feeling endangered, alleging violent behaviour directed at those of Jewish heritage. Pro-Palestinian demonstrators clarified their protest was against the institution, not individuals, disavowing antisemitism.
