Donny Hathaway parents: Meet Drusella Huntley

Hosea Brown, a serviceman who had recently returned from World War II, and Drusella Huntley welcomed Donny Hathaway into the world on October 1st, 1945. Hathaway’s parents divorced soon after his birth, leaving his mother unable to care for her small son on her alone. As a result, his mother and his maternal grandmother, gospel singer Martha Cromwell, reared him in the St. Louis, Missouri, housing projects.
