Danileigh Biography

DaniLeigh, born Daniella Curiel on December 20, 1994, in Miami, Florida, is a talented singer, dancer, and director of Dominican descent. Her journey in the music industry has been marked by passion, determination, and artistic growth. Inspired by influential figures such as Missy Elliott, Aaliyah, Drake, and Rihanna, DaniLeigh has carved a unique path for herself, embracing her talents and showcasing her vibrant personality through her music.

From a young age, DaniLeigh displayed a deep interest in music. She began dancing at the age of 12 and discovered her singing talent at 14. However, it took positive feedback from others to overcome her shyness and sing in front of an audience. DaniLeigh’s musical aspirations initially found an outlet on YouTube, where she posted vocal covers, including a rendition of Musiq Soulchild’s “So Beautiful.”

Despite her early passion for music, DaniLeigh’s career truly took off when she made the pivotal decision to move to Los Angeles. This move allowed her to forge connections within the industry and opened doors for her as a backup dancer. Working alongside artists such as Pharrell Williams and Nelly Furtado, DaniLeigh gained valuable experience and honed her skills, setting the stage for her future success.

During this period, DaniLeigh also formed the pop duo Curly Fryz with her sister, further showcasing her versatility as an artist. The duo’s talent and captivating performances caught the attention of legendary musician Prince, who personally asked DaniLeigh to direct the music video for his single “Breakfast Can Wait” when she was just 18 years old. Prince became a mentor to DaniLeigh, nurturing her artistic growth until his untimely passing in 2016.

In 2015, DaniLeigh released her debut single “D.O.S.E,” but it was her 2017 hit single “Play” that truly put her on the map. This empowering anthem for women and Latinos featured Mexican-American rapper Kap G, solidifying DaniLeigh’s position as a rising star. Following her success, she signed with Def Jam Records and released her first EP, “Summer with Friends,” in 2017, which showcased her versatility and musical range.

DaniLeigh continued to make waves in the industry with her subsequent releases. Her EP “The Plan,” released in 2018, featured collaborations with acclaimed rappers YG, Lil Yachty, Lil Baby, and YBN Nahmir, further establishing her reputation as a versatile artist with a unique sound. She also gained recognition for her hit single “Lil Bebe,” which was later remixed featuring vocals from Lil Baby, and “Easy,” featuring singer Chris Brown.

Beyond her own music, DaniLeigh has also made notable appearances in the industry. She made a cameo in Megan Thee Stallion’s music video for “Hot Girl Summer” and choreographed for DaBaby’s viral hit “BOP on Broadway.” These experiences not only highlight her versatility as an artist but also her contributions to the broader music landscape.

However, DaniLeigh’s journey has not been without its challenges. In January 2021, she found herself embroiled in controversy when she posted a snippet of a song called “Yellow Bone” on social media, which received backlash for promoting colourism. Recognizing the impact and gravity of the situation, DaniLeigh issued an apology, expressing remorse and acknowledging the need for education and growth.
