Cherilyn Sarkisian, later known as Cher, entered the world in El Centro, California, on May 20, 1946.
Her father, John Sarkisian, an Armenian-American truck driver plagued by drug and gambling issues, and her mother, Georgia Holt (originally Jackie Jean Crouch), a retired actress and former model of Irish, English, German, and Cherokee descent, were her parents.
Cher parents parted ways when she was just 10 months.
This led to her upbringing by her mother and maternal grandmother in various locations, including Los Angeles, New York, and Texas.
