About

“Amazing Grace” is a Christian hymn published in 1779, with words written by the English poet and Anglican clergyman John Newton (1725–1807). Newton wrote the words from personal experience.

He was an outspoken opponent of the slave trade, which he had participated in earlier in his life, and the hymn reflects his spiritual journey from a slave trader to a follower of Christianity.

The tune for “Amazing Grace” was not originally associated with the song when it was first published. It was added later and became the standard melody for the hymn. Today, “Amazing Grace” is one of the most well-known and beloved hymns in the world.

Amazing Grace by il divo lyrics

Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I’m found
Was blind but now I see

‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

Through many dangers, toils, and snares
I have already come
This grace that brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home

When we’ve been here ten thousand years
Bright, shining as the sun
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we first begun

Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I’m found
Was blind but now I see
